The FAQ Series: Do I Have to Answer Your Emails if My Work is Accepted?

Many of you have sent us the same questions over and over via email. That is why we created a very detailed FAQ and Philosophy pages to help you.

But we wanted to make things even easier by breaking down all the questions into easy-to-digest posts.

Today’s question is: “Do I have to answer your emails if my work is accepted?

You do not have to, but it would be nice to hear from you.

If you have not emailed us back within 14 days, we will consider that as a green light to publish you, as well as an agreement with our publication decisions. Please make sure to check your spam folders, in case any of our messages may have landed there.

NB: We receive many submissions. Our number of slots being limited, the publication date we highlight in our email may change. We strongly recommend subscribing to our blog to receive news in your inbox, as we do not have time to contact each artist individually beyond our initial acceptance email.

Requests for submission withdrawals sent after the 21-day window will be subject to a fee to compensate us for our time.

The FAQ Series: Why Do You Charge Submission Fees?

Many of you have sent us the same questions over and over via email. That is why we created a very detailed FAQ and Philosophy pages to help you.

But we wanted to make things even easier by breaking down all the questions into easy-to-digest posts.

Today’s question is: “Why Do You Charge Submission Fees?

Auroras & Blossoms does not have sponsors. Our only sources of revenue are submission fees, donations, and book / magazine issue sales.

The fee you pay:

  • Ensures that we can dedicate the time to reading all submissions.
  • Helps cover the costs of maintaining / marketing our website and your publications.
  • Allows us to continue providing artists of all levels with an opportunity to showcase their work and build their publishing credits through our anthologies, PoArtMo Show, guides, etc.

We offer four options:

Option 1 (13-16 year-old artists only)

No submission fee – Only one piece per participant.

Payment to selected artists: N/A.

Option 2 (adult artists only)

Pay what you want per piece (minimum $1 / piece) for up to 3 (three) pieces or 6 (six) six word stories.

Payment to selected artists: N/A.

Interested in receiving a PDF copy of the anthology and/or royalties? You will have to pay an additional fee of $3 or $6 per piece (depending on what you want) to be able to avail of this opportunity.

Option 3 (adult artists only)

$3 per piece / 2 (two) six word stories; or $9 for up to 3 (three) pieces or 6 (six) six word stories

Payment to selected artists: PDF copy of the anthology.

Interested in receiving royalties? You will have to pay $6 per piece to be able to avail of this opportunity.

Option 4 (adult artists only)

$6 per piece / 2 (two) six word stories; or $15 for up to 3 (three) pieces / 6 (six) six word stories

Payment to selected artists: ongoing royalties + PDF copy of the anthology + interview on our blog or PoArtMo Podcast.

NB: Submissions that are sent without payment or with the incorrect amount (options 2 and 3) will be automatically rejected. You will also not receive a refund for that incorrect amount. You can however contact us to pay any difference owed if you still wish us to consider your submission.

Other questions related to submission fees:

  • Can I pay the fee and submit my work later? – Yes, as long you send us your submission within a week of payment. If you have not sent us your work within a week, you will have to pay the fee again.
  • Can I withdraw my submission anytime? Will I get a refund? – Yes, you can withdraw your submission anytime. However, we do not refund fees after 24 hours.
  • I don’t use Paypal. What other payment methods do you use? – You can pay the fee using Stripe instead.
  • Does payment equate immediate acceptance / publication? – No. If your work is not selected for a current anthology, we might choose to use it in a future one.

Inspirational Art Series – Sleep (Jean-René Carrière) (Eugène Carrière)

Hello everyone!

We are excited share with you more of our series dedicated to inspirational art through the ages.

This series seeks to highlight classical pieces that make our hearts skip a beat, are likely to brighten your day, and will help your artistic creativity!

Today’s pick is Eugène Carrière’s lithograph “Sleep”.

“Sleep” is a portrait of Carrière’s young son, Jean-René, and appears in L’Album d’estampes originales de la Galerie Vollard. It is a beautiful example of how the artist worked from dark to light.

Rather than drawing with a lithographic crayon, Carrière covered his entire stone with ink, which he then wiped and scraped away to create areas where the paper would show through when printed. Here, the visual effects of this technique combine with expressive, almost abstract forms to give the subject a fantastic, dreamlike atmosphere.

The Cleveland Museum of Art

Carrière (1849-1906) mostly focused on scenes of his domestic life. His work, which features a unique brown monochrome palette, influenced Picasso. “Sleep” may not be his most famous piece, but the sheer simplicity of what it depicts will leave you with a deep sense of peace.

Inspired by this piece?

Create your own artwork and submit it to us for potential inclusion in one of our publications. We now offer ongoing royalties to paying contributors.

The FAQ Series: What is Your Response Time for Submissions?

Many of you have sent us the same questions over and over via email. That is why we created a very detailed FAQ and Philosophy pages to help you.

But we wanted to make things even easier by breaking down all the questions into easy-to-digest posts.

Today’s question is: “What is your response time for submissions?

Our response time is between four (4) and five (5) months.

Due to our very busy schedule, we can only contact selected artists individually to inform them that they will be featured. Afterwards, news related to our platform, including release dates, are relayed via our newsletter.

That is the reason why, when you submit your work to us, we automatically sign you up for our newsletter. This also ensures that we do not forget anyone. We send between one and two newsletters per week. You can unsubscribe anytime.

(With that said, you are more than welcome to email us to inquire about the status of your submission after four months.)

Special notes:

Auroras & Blossoms is run by only two people. As such, we may be unable to respond to your query in a timely fashion. If you haven’t heard from us in a few days, we kindly ask you to be patient and avoid sending us messages repeatedly.

We are very sensitive to politeness and professionalism, and do not enjoy rudeness and disrespect. Threats and/or abuse of our patience / time will be dealt with accordingly. Any current and future submissions will be rejected and further communication avoided.
